Middle School Manager

    Primary Function: The Middle School Program Manager is to coordinate the planning of activities, workshops, and events that provide a safe and engaging learning environment to middle school students located at the Isaacs Center Beacon at PS 198. Our program promotes community service, educational enrichment, visual and performing arts, sports and recreation. The Middle School Program manager reports to the Beacon Coordinator.

    Responsibilities:

    • Manage the day to day operations for middle school programming.
    • Plan and facilitate after-school and evening activities for middle school students
    • Supervise college level staff and activity specialists
    • Monitor student progress
    • Report youth updates along programmatic ideas on a weekly basis in written form
    • Enter case notes in agency database
    • Facilitate staff training and development
    • Network with organizations in the community
    • Plan a variety of fun and engaging lessons using input from collaborative planning sessions. Activities should ensure rich learning experiences for all types of learners.
    • Maintain and develop positive relationships with families, participants, staff, schools, other organizations, and volunteers
    • Be proactive in developing, enhancing and moving forward program goals and improvements
    • Foster a physically and emotionally safe environment to program staff and families that adhere to the department non-teasing and bullying policy
    • Report and document noteworthy incidents to the Beacon Coordinator.
    • Guide programmatic decisions by adhering to department values and vision

    Qualifications:

    • BA in human services related field along with 3 years of experience working with youth, specifically youth ages 9-14.
    • Expertise in group facilitation is a plus
    • Evening hours and some weekends are required.
    • Excellent writing ability a must.

School Based Afterschool Coordinator

    Main Function: The agency school based Afterschool Program Coordinator is responsible for day to day management of a program that provides comprehensive staff development to young adults group leaders serving children in a public school program. The program is delivered through a comprehensive menu of services including thematic based learning projects that integrate educational enrichment, visual and performing arts, clubs and sports. The Afterschool Coordinator reports directly to the School Age Program Director. The program is connected to a several sister site and is part of department serving over 3000 youths and their families.

    Responsibilities:

    • Oversee daily program operations and administrative tasks including but not limited to keeping attendance records, ordering supplies, keeping participant files and maintaining physical space
    • Adhere to NY School Age Childcare Standards as specified by the NYS Department of Health Office of Child and Family Services
    • Create a fun, thought provoking program environment developed around a strength-based learning approach grounded in youth development principals
    • Directly supervised, provide training, tools and support to 18 young adult staff with the goal of developing employability and life skills
    • Be a catalyst for inspiring young adult staff to independently develop and deliver lesson plans
    • Maintain and develop positive relationships with families, participants, staff, schools, other organizations, and volunteers
    • Develop evaluation tools and monitor program outcomes collaboratively with Senior Management staff
    • Document program activities, working structures and resources to develop and maintain program binder
    • Provide statistical, narrative and other reports as requested
    • Be proactive in developing, enhancing and moving forward program goals and improvements
    • Foster a physically and emotionally safe environment to program staff and families that adhere to the department non-teasing and bullying policy
    • Report and document noteworthy incidents to Director and Assistant Directors of the department
    • Plan special events both independently and in collaboration with other staff for parents, participants and community members
    • Get approval for and track program expenditures
    • Attend and make positive contributions to department meetings and in house staff development
    • Work consistently and collaboratively with center based sister site
    • Guide programmatic decisions by adhering to department values and vision

    Requirements of Training And Experience:

    • BA in Education, Social Work or Human Services or related field
    • Minimum of 3 years supervising staff of 8 or more members
    • Ability to laugh and find positives in challenging situations a must

Group Leader & Assistant Group Leader (Part-Time)

    The Isaacs Center is looking for dynamic individuals to work with our children in our award winning Afterschool Programs. Group Leaders will be required to plan activities that provide a safe and engaging learning environment in programs located at our school-based and community sites. Our program integrates educational enrichment, visual and performing arts, clubs and sport, within a theme-based framework.

    Responsibilities:

    • Plan and implement fun and engaging theme-based and recreational activities
    • Manage behavioral problems and conflicts using mediation technique
    • Exhibit compassion for program participant
    • Assist children in prioritizing and completing homework
    • Document and monitor daily activities in class to include recording attendance and incidents, and lesson plans
    • Supervise children at all times
    • Inform supervisor of noteworthy incidents occurring during program time, providing written documentation when necessary
    • Attend and actively participate in professional development, meetings, and trainings offered
    • Supervise and escort children to all program at all times

    Expectations:

    • Exhibit positive behavior to co-workers, parents, and participants
    • Ability to laugh, and have a must
    • Possess ability to work in a team-oriented setting
    • Possess a commitment to being reflective and working towards positive self improvement

    Qualifications:

    • Upper-classman High School student, H.S. Graduate or working toward a degree
    • Minimum of two years working with children in a recreations or educational program setting
